Technical seminar: Plugging and abandonment

The Norwegian Ocean Industry Authority (Havtil) invites you to a seminar on plugging and abandonment.

  • Havtil
  • Date:
  • Location: Valhall, Havtil (Professor Olav Hanssens vei 10)
  • The event is free, but anyone who wants to participate must register. ID is required upon arrival. Digital driver's licenses are accepted, but only when using the app - not a screenshot. The event begins at 9:00 AM and lasts until around 4:00 PM.

There are currently approximately 2,200 oil and gas wells on the Norwegian continental shelf that are either producing/injecting or are defined as temporarily abandoned wells.

These wells will one day have to be plugged and permanently abandoned for an eternity.

In order for oil and gas wells to be plugged and secured in a robust and responsible manner in the future, we as an industry depend on continuous improvement in the use of new technology, sharing of learning after incidents and development of new technology and new methods to reduce costs and ensure robustness in future PP&A operations.

On the Norwegian shelf, the activity level and costs of future plugging operations are estimated to be significant, both for the individual operator, license partner and for Norwegian society.

The industry will also have to prepare for a high level of activity within this discipline and ensure continuous competence and capacity for many decades to come.

Havtil supports the players' work on developing and qualifying new technology that will streamline plugging operations, ensure competency development and reduce costs with P&A on the day the "big wave" of P&A operations starts.

If anyone has any wishes to present/suggest a presentation during the conference, please contact Nina Ringøen.
